His Honour Michael Cook

His Honour Michael Cook retired as a circuit judge in May 2005 when he became a consultant with Underwoods solicitors, specialising in costs.

Thousands of judges, barristers, solicitors and law costs draftsmen have attended his costs seminars and appreciated his lively and entertaining style of presentation. He is a former Secretary and President of the London Solicitors Litigation Association, of which he is proud to be an honorary member, and a founder member of both Holborn and Westminster Law Societies.

He has advised and represented many firms of solicitors on costs problem appearing as advocate in several reported leading cases and represented the Law Society in costs negotiations with the Lord Chancellor's Department. He is the author of Cook on Costs 2008 (LexisNexis Butterworths, 2007),general editor of Butterworths Costs Service and The Litigation Letter and a contributor to Cordery on Solicitors and Butterworths Personal Injury Litigation Service, he has lectured on costs for the Judicial Studies Board, chairs the IBC annual costs seminar and is the past Honorary President of the Association of Law and Costs Draftsmen until his retirement. He was also a member of the Civil Justice Council's working party on costs and Costs Forum. He frequently speaks at seminars and to local law societies and writes articles on legal subjects for The Times, the Law Society, The Civil Justice Quarterly, the Law Society and other legal journals
